Privacy policy

TillOwn keeps your till data on your own computer. We don't run accounts, ads or tracking, and we don't see your sales.

Who we are

TillOwn is made and sold by Peter Moore (ICAREngine). If you have a question about privacy, email hello@tillown.com.

Your till data stays with you

The TillOwn app for Mac and Windows stores everything it needs in a database on the shop's own computer: your menu and prices, stock, staff names and PINs (stored as hashes), open tabs, sales, refunds, cash-ups, receipts and settings. This data is not sent to us and we can't see it. Backups are saved on the same computer, or wherever you choose to export them.

The app has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. If the app hits an error, it writes a log file on your computer. Nothing is sent to us automatically.

When the TillOwn app uses the internet

  • Licence check. When you activate TillOwn, and when it checks the licence, the app sends your licence key and a name for the computer (its device name) to Lemon Squeezy, our payment and licensing provider. This is how a licence is tied to one till and can be moved later.
  • Update check. The Mac and Windows app reads a small file from tillown.com (version.json) about once a day to see if a newer version is out. No information about your shop is sent with it.
  • Exchange rates. When you open the currency & tax screen, the app fetches public currency exchange rates (from open.er-api.com or jsDelivr). No information about your shop is sent with it.
  • Cash-up emails (optional). If you set up cash-up email reports, the app sends them through the email server and account you enter, to the addresses you choose. They don't pass through us.

As with any internet request, the services above can see your computer's IP address.

Tablets, the floor pad and printers stay on your Wi-Fi

Extra tills (iPad and Android tablets added with ADD TILL), the floor ordering pad and network receipt printers talk to your main till over your shop's local Wi-Fi only. Their orders and sales go to the main till's database on your computer, not to us.

The TillOwn tablet app (iPad and Android)

The tablet app is a free companion second till for TillOwn on a Mac or Windows computer.

  • It connects only to your main till, over your shop's local Wi-Fi. Sales, tabs and stock changes are saved on the main till.
  • It has no account or sign-in, no in-app purchases, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it doesn't send data to us.
  • The camera is used only to scan the ADD TILL code shown on your main till. No photos are taken or kept.
  • The demo till uses made-up sample data kept on the tablet. It is deleted when you leave the demo.

Buying TillOwn

TillOwn is sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record for our store (ICAREngine). Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details, takes the payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and emails your licence key. Their privacy policy applies to that information: lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.

Lemon Squeezy shares order details with us, such as your name, email address, what you bought and your licence key. We use them only to deliver your licence, handle refunds and give you support. We never see your full card details.

This website

  • tillown.com doesn't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
  • It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes the technical data needed to deliver and protect the site, such as your IP address.
  • To show prices in your currency, the page asks Cloudflare for your approximate country and loads public exchange rates from frankfurter.dev. If you pick a currency, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage. It is not a cookie and it is not sent to us.
  • The Buy buttons take you to the Lemon Squeezy checkout.

Emails to us

If you email hello@tillown.com, we use your message and email address only to answer you. We keep the conversation only as long as we need it to help you.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@tillown.com. For payment records, we'll pass your request to Lemon Squeezy where needed. Your till data is on your own computer, so you control it directly. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can also complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).

Children

TillOwn is business software for shops, bars and cafés. It isn't aimed at children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how TillOwn handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
